The “unofficial” term usually refers to the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS Studio, which allows you to use Streamlabs features (like alerts and overlays) directly within the standard OBS software without switching to Streamlabs Desktop. Installation Steps To install the plugin, follow these steps:
Download the Installer: Visit Streamlabs.com/obs-plugin to download the executable file.
Run the Installer: Close OBS Studio if it is open. Run the downloaded .exe file; it will automatically locate your OBS installation folder and add the necessary files.
Restart OBS: Launch OBS Studio. If the installation was successful, a Streamlabs onboarding window should appear automatically. Initial Configuration
Once the plugin is active, you need to link your account to sync your settings:
Log In: Click Log In & Get Started in the pop-up window. This will open your web browser to log into your Streamlabs Dashboard via Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook.
Select Features: After logging in, you will be prompted to import existing overlays or set up tipping via PayPal/Stripe.
Enable Docks: If the Streamlabs Recent Events or Chat windows don’t appear, go to the top menu in OBS, select Docks, and check the boxes for Streamlabs Activity Feed and Streamlabs Chat. Adding Widgets & Alerts
The plugin eliminates the need to manually copy-paste browser source URLs:
Click the Streamlabs tab in the top navigation bar of OBS Studio.
Select Widgets to browse available tools like the Alert Box, Chat Box, or Event List.
Click + Add on the widget you want; it will automatically appear as a new source in your current scene.
To test them, use the Test Alerts button within the plugin window.
